Homework
Homework will be sent home each Friday.
A list of spellings or 'sounds of the week' will be sent home to practice. In KS2 they will have a written test the following Friday. There will also be an optional spelling sheet for KS2.
We will also expect the children to log onto Numbots and/or TT Rockstars to complete some maths fluency practice.
Daily reading is also a very important part in your child’s learning journey. This can be reading their school reading book and/or enjoying a reading for pleasure book of their choice.
This will be sent out on Class Dojo by your class teacher on Fridays.
Remember to name your child’s property
A reminder that lost items are far more likely to return to their owners if they are clearly named! That includes any pens, pencil cases, lunch boxes etc as well as clothes.
Optional Home Learning Tasks
1) Writing Tasks
-
Formal Persuasive Letter: Write a letter to persuade Mrs Powell to buy some new equipment for the school, for example: for a new football pitch, laptops for every child, or a fancy new classroom. You should explain the reasons why your choice of equipment would benefit the school.
-
A Letter to your favourite celebrity: Write a letter to your favourite celebrity. What would you tell them, what would you want to know or ask? If you wanted, you could try to find out where you could send your letter so that your favourite celebrity might get to read it.
2) Maths Tasks
-
Engage with some of these exciting videos on BBC Bitesize created to support in understanding some of the trickier topics that we will cover this year. These activities are great for revisiting and retrieving learning that we have covered in class but also to pre-teach for topics ahead.
-
BBC Bitesize KS2 SATs Revision videos and Activities - Arithmetic
3) World War 2
This term we will learn lots of information about the impact of the American airmen setting in Britain during the war. We look at some of the things they brought to Britain, including day-to-day items as well as some of the aircraft they introduced here.
Research and Record
- Research some of the things that the American soldiers brought to Britain and create a poster or presentation to show what you have found.
Create
-
A possible task you could do is to research what American and British planes were used in the war. You could find out certain statistics (such as year introduced, top speed, engine power, weight, etc.) and create your very own set of Top Trumps with these.
4) Reading Practice
Choose one book, story, or article you are reading at home and complete one of the activities below:
-
Character Detective – Pick a character and describe them in five adjectives. Explain why you chose each word.
-
Chapter Snapshot – Write a short summary of what happened in the chapter you read. Try to use no more than 5 sentences.
-
Creative Twist – Change one event in the story. How would this new event change the ending?
-
Favourite Quote – Copy your favourite line or sentence. Explain why you liked it (e.g. exciting, funny, powerful).
-
Book Reviewer – Give the book a star rating out of 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and write 3–4 sentences to explain your score.
5) Science Task
-
Safety Poster – Create a bright poster showing 5 important electricity safety rules.
-
Everyday Detectives – Make a list of 10 electrical items in your home. Sort them into mains-powered and battery-powered.
-
Circuit Sketcher – Draw a simple circuit with a bulb, battery and switch. Label the parts. (You can use a ruler for neatness!)
-
Bright Ideas – Imagine a world with no electricity. Write a short paragraph about how life would be different.
Many thanks,
Mr Goodfellow
